This painting is my attempt to synthesize how the ancient Egyptians imagined the world. In the north there was a mysterious sea called the Great Green, in the south there was Nubia (today's Sudan). where the precious metal - gold was obtained from, the west is symbolized by the goddess Nephthys (with the symbol of the royal palace on her head), and the east is symbolized by Isis (with the royal throne on her head). The god Thoth with the face of Ibis is associated with the moon. And Horus the falcon... well, according to one concept, one of his eyes is the moon and the other is the sun. And there must be the symbol of the horizon, the hieroglyph akhet, representing the sun between the two banks of the Nile. There is also one constellation in the painting - Toeris the Hippopotamus with a crocodile on its back is the Egyptian Ursa Major. ;) Lots of symbols here, right? ;) But at the same time, it is a great cheat sheet on the geography of ancient Egypt. This is the most textural of my paintings so far, the waves at the top are really choppy, the gold sparkles like real. You just want to touch this painting...
