This is the night part of the diptych titled the Egyptian Solar Cycle. When you put them together, you can see the changing cycles of day and night, light and darkness, victories and defeats that both gods and ordinary mortals go through. The night painting is much darker and mysterious than the Journey during the day [...]. The crew of the solar barge with the nocturnal form of the sun encounter here the fierce-looking inhabitants of the Underworld: Ammut, a conglomeration of the most dangerous animals in the Egyptian fauna (lion, crocodile and hippopotamus); Eternal Atum in the form of a snake with the head of an old man; the terrible snake Apophis and deceaseds in the form of soul ba (these are these charming figures of birds with human heads). In the background grows the Ished tree of life. The crew sails towards the rising sun, but... it can't be seen yet. The colors are based on cool colors of navy blue, purple and indigo, combined with warm ones, and the painting carries a message that I really like: after night and difficulties, there is always light.
